Hot Toys Loki Figure Coming in December!

by Sean Gerber

Snubbed last year in favor of his adoptive brother and father from "Thor," there was no denying Loki after serving as the lead villain in "The Avengers" this year. Hot Toys has released several new photos and Sideshow Collectibles is now taking pre-orders for this perfect rendering of actor Tom Hiddleston's likeness. The 1:6 scale figure will not be out until December, but given that fans have been waiting on this piece, it's best to pre-order sooner than later, if interested. Check out the pre-order link and more images below.

Extended 'The Amazing Spider-Man' Trailer

by Sean Gerber

Sony Pictures has made the 4-minute "TASM" preview that aired with tonight's episode of "America's Got Talent" available online.

While most of the footage can be found in previous trailers, the bit at the beginning between Spider-Man and the kid shows a more family-friendly side of the film that we had not seen before. Give Sony credit for showing parents that Spidey is still safe for kids.

MMM Podcast, Episode 69: Batman & The Avengers- It's a Party & Everyone's Invited!

by The Gentlemen

"The Avengers" is an unprecedented success and as most of us enjoy this wonderful moment, we also turn our eyes toward the future. The Gentlemen are here and they've brought backup by way of MMM's "Young Justice" reviewer, Zach. In this followup to our Superhero Cinema 101 op ed, we all weigh in on the perceived competition for box office dollars and future genre influence between "The Avengers" and "The Dark Knight Rises." We examine what studios, including Warner Bros. with its DC properties (Justice League!), might do in response while also questioning the merits of the "Marvel vs. DC" rivalry that's leaving some fans unable to love one film without hating the other. This isn't Highlander; there can be more than one.

Plus, our breakdown of the latest trailer for "The Amazing Spider-Man" and the CW's decision to pickup the pilot for "Arrow."

Superhero Cinema 101: Embracing Versatility with Professors Nolan & Whedon

by Sean Gerber

Success is addictive to those who have it and irresistibly attractive to those wishing they had it. It is what fuels the pursuit of the next big thing, or the current big thing that can be duplicated. With that in mind, it comes as no shock that the massive success of “The Avengers” and the assumed success of “The Dark Knight Rises” have inspired speculation about the future of superhero cinema. A question is forming: which of the two films will have the greater influence on the future of the genre?

There is an obvious answer, but in truth, this is a trick question.

'Superman vs. The Elite' Clip #1

by Sean Gerber

Witness the arrival of The Elite!

I was fortunate enough to see this at WonderCon. My review will be up closer to the June 12 release of the film, but "Superman vs. The Elite" is definitely one of the best features I've seen from Warner Home Video.

Can 'The Dark Knight' Rise Above 'The Avengers'?

by Sean Gerber

Superheroes have dominated the box office for years, but never like this. "The Avengers" completely annihilated all of its predecessors, superheroes and otherwise, with a record $207.4 million in its domestic opening weekend. Without adjusting for inflation, the closest to that total any film had in its U.S. opening weekend was "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2," which wasn't really close at all with $168.8 million. The question now becomes, which film, if any, will soar above the heroes from the Helicarrier?

As crazy as it seems, inflation alone assures us that someday, the record will be broken again (and again after that). The "Hunger Games" sequels have to be seen as serious contenders given that the first film brought in $152.5 million in its first three days. Even if "Catching Fire" catches box office fever, that still leaves "The Avengers" safe for another year and a half. Let's live in the now, though, and identify the elephant in the room, Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises."

Review: SWAMP THING #9

by Robert Reineke

“Spring came and everything in the world woke up.” – Alan Moore, Swamp Thing Vol. 2 #34

In Swamp Thing #9, Alec is brought face to face with a transformed Abby in the heart of The Rot’s kingdom and has to fight for his survival and attempt to get through to the Abby he knew. And Alec is surprisingly successful.

I’ve underestimated Alec Holland and Scott Snyder as Alec Holland does show that he has been thinking several moves ahead, backing up the chess metaphor established earlier in the run. One could say that the seeds were planted for a turnaround awhile ago. Unfortunately that level of clever plotting also undercuts some of the drama of the situation as Abby’s current state is hardly explored before the plot demands that Alec act.

Earth 2 #1

Sean Gerber: One of the most anticipated series in DC's Second Wave of New 52 titles lives up to its hype in a remarkable debut issue from writer James Robinson and artist Nicola Scott. In a single issue, Earth 2 surpasses the entire debut arc of flagship title, Justice League, with a stunning tale of heroism and sacrifice. We see Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman (their Earth 2 versions, at least) in their finest hour before being introduced to the "new" heroes that will define the book. By issue's end, this series is nothing like what I thought it would be, but it might actually be better.

'Avengers' Smashes Box Office with an Estimated $200.3M Weekend!

by Sean Gerber

See Thor and Captain America looking up? They're trying to see the top of the staggering pile of money they've accumulated. Marvel's The Avengers was already a worldwide box office phenomenon and now that it's stateside, it's breaking even more records. Via the Wall Street Journal, several outlets are reporting that the film has shattered the domestic opening weekend box office record with an unbelievable $200.3 Million!

The final numbers will be available tomorrow, but even if this estimate is slightly inflated, The Avengers will undoubtedly eclipse Harry Potter's record from a year ago at $169 million.

Wow.
